The Mitchell Agency would like to begin 2020 by expressing our appreciation to all our veterans for their service to our country. We are eternally grateful for the dedication and sacrifice that the members of the armed services display every day. To these men and women who have served, we say “Thank You”. To those who are currently serving our country we are deeply indebted and pray for your safe return to your families.

We would like to encourage our local citizens to take some time in the coming year to honor one of our veterans. Below are a few suggestions as to how ….

If you personally know a veteran, whether they live close by or states away, make an effort to simply say “thanks!”

Send a veteran a handwritten letter or care package with a small gift and some of their favorite snacks.

Inviting a veteran to a local restaurant or coffeehouse is guaranteed to make their day. Prepare a few questions to ask about their time in the military.

Many of our vets who took part in WWII, Korea and Vietnam are likely to be senior citizens and possibly living on their own. Help a vet with household tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, laundry or mowing the yard.

Find time to volunteer at the Veterans Home and at local events on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are nearly 2.5 million veteran-owned businesses in the United States. Find a veteran-owned company near you and pay them a visit today!

Honor Flight of Greater Lafayette flies WWII, Korea and terminally ill veterans from all wars, to visit and tour many of the monuments and sites in Washington, D.C.

The United States has several thousand troops currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are groups in the Greater Lafayette area that send our troops overseas cards, care packages and other items. To find out more about these groups go to https://www.tippecanoe.in.gov/163/Veterans-Services.
