These upstanding individuals sacrifice so much so that we can preserve our way of life.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Can\u2019t Be Thankful Enough<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Mitchell Agency would like to begin 2020 by expressing our appreciation to all our veterans for their service to our country.\u00a0\u00a0 We are eternally grateful for the dedication and sacrifice that the members of the armed services display every day.\u00a0 To these men and women who have served, we say \u201cThank You\u201d.\u00a0 To those who are currently serving our country we are deeply indebted and pray for your safe return to your families.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Calling All Citizens<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>We would like to encourage our local citizens to take some time in the coming year to honor one of our veterans.\u00a0 Below are a few suggestions as to how \u2026.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Say \u201cthank you!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>If you personally know a veteran, whether they live close by or states away, make an effort to simply say \u201cthanks!\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Write a letter or send a care package.<\/strong><br \/>\nSend a veteran a handwritten letter or care package with a small gift and some of their favorite snacks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treat a vet to lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee.<\/strong><br \/>\nInviting a veteran to a local restaurant or coffeehouse is guaranteed to make their day. Prepare a few questions to ask about their time in the military.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Offer to help with household chores. <\/strong><br \/>\nMany of our vets who took part in WWII, Korea and Vietnam are likely to be senior citizens and possibly living on their own.\u00a0 Help a vet with household tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, laundry or mowing the yard.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make a commitment to volunteer.<br \/>\n<\/strong>Find time to volunteer at the Veterans Home and at local events on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Donate to a cause that supports veterans. <\/strong>Consider making a donation to groups that support our veterans. Encourage your friends and family members to do the same.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Invite a veteran to speak at your child\u2019s school. <\/strong>Invite a veteran to talk about their experiences or host a Q&amp;A session at your child\u2019s school. Many young people do not understand the sacrifices veterans have made to protect us and our freedoms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support veteran-owned companies.<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Census Bureau estimates that there are nearly 2.5 million veteran-owned businesses in the United States. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.veteranownedbusiness.com\/\">Find a veteran-owned company<\/a> near you and pay them a visit today!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Honor Flight of Greater Lafayette<\/span> <\/strong><br \/>\nHonor Flight of Greater Lafayette flies WWII, Korea and terminally ill veterans from all wars, to visit and tour many of the monuments and sites in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Vets on these one day trips are accompanied by a guardian to ensure each veteran has a safe, memorable and rewarding experience. To learn more about this service and when their next scheduled flight is call 765-357-1000 or email info@honorflightlafayette.com.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Don\u2019t Forget Those Who Are Currently Serving<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe United States has several thousand troops currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.\u00a0 There are groups in the Greater Lafayette area that send our troops overseas cards, care packages and other items.\u00a0 To find out more about these groups go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tippecanoe.in.gov\/163\/Veterans-Services\">https:\/\/www.tippecanoe.in.gov\/163\/Veterans-Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also an opportunity to help the family of a service member stationed overseas.\u00a0 Without the father or mother home, families with young children can always use some help.\u00a0 Offer to watch their children or run an errand for them, share in a car pool, or have the family over for a meal.\u00a0 This is a great way to show appreciation for the sacrifices the families make when their loved one is not at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Few groups deserve our recognition, respect and gratitude more than the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. military.
